# TransactionValidationResponse Values

Defines the response returned by the Vindicia Retain `billTransactions`, `reportTransactions` and `refundTransactions` API methods.

**Note:**

The `TransactionValidationResponse` array returns only Transactions or Refunds with missing or erroneous data errors; Transactions or Refunds received without any such errors have no status values returned. I.e., an empty `TransactionValidationResponse` means there were no errors. Use this array to take actions on the failures. Transactions or Refunds containing submission data errors are not stored by Retain. Correct all errors and resubmit to Retain for use in processing.

`TransactionValidationResponse` values are summarized in the table below.

| Data Members | Data Type | Description |
| - | - | - |
| `code` | int | Numeric code indicating the type of issue that was encountered. For more information, see [Retain Return Codes](retain.return_codes). |
| `description` | string | Description of the issue encountered. The `description` is not saved by Vindicia Retain, and has no size limit. The meaningful data is usually located within the first 512 bytes. |
| `merchantTransactionId` | string | Merchant's unique ID for the Transaction submitted to Retain for retry or refund. |
